Oh, I am so looking forward to Monday, when the diamond commercials should go away again.

Are all the commercials of women showing off their stones while smiling with happily at their children who nod at each other before dad walks up to look happily at mommy's diamond before kissing the perfectly painted pink lips of the woman who's wearing tasteful, pastel colored old lady clothes with a sweater thrown over her shoulder getting to you?

*ponders* Hey, I think that is the longest sentence I've ever written.

Well, yes, but that's not quite the spirit of it... the "perfect family" theme is in a lot more commercials. My problem is more that the diamonds would appear to be the only possible Mother's Day gift, and of course it's what every woman wants. *retch*

Even the evil Valentine's commercials at least had a little more variety. The only variety currently is which store is selling the diamonds.

It drives me batty. All those, "See, look what a perfect family we are and there's all this happiness and joy because you were smart enough as to buy your mother/the mother of your children a big hunka stone that looks like frozen cold ice." Here, though, the commercials aren't all focusing on diamonds - they're actually focusing mainly on diamonds but mentioning other jewelry gift ideas, too.

I was to see a Diamond's aren't forever commercial, they are an unstable crystal configuration of metamorphic carbon, like the greasy stuff used to lubricate car parts. Go for colored gems girls, they're rarer and last longer geologically.

Now that's a line I'll have to use on my fiance someday. I love it. :-)

Yes, but there is still nothing that can match a diamond for sparkle, it has the highest index of refraction, so a color stone with some little diamonds to show it off is nicest.

...unless you happen to prefer subtle to sparkle, in which case dispensing with the diamonds altogether is just fine.

But then, everyone already knows my opinion on the matter.
