Actually, let me clarify here, for anyone else who's reading as well: I don't think he expected anyone to do his dirty work. If I had been in his shoes, I would have hoped that someone who was engaging in the conversation would make it go away subtly, because stepping in and making a fuss draws more attention than just ignoring it. Since I've thought of it now, I wish I'd thought of it then. That's all.
