Wasn't it only about ten days ago that I was talking with people about Drew's requests for alumni donations and how happy I was that they didn't know where I am?

Well, Drew has found me. I had a donation request in Saturday's mail, and a copy of Drew Magazine in today's. I do like reading the magazine, but I'm personally in some sort of contact with nearly everyone I'm interested in, and none of us give our information to the class secretaries.

I suspect this means that Medfest is making their information available to the university records; either that or someone I know got annoyed at me and turned me in. ;-)

I'll have to move now, to get away from them.

It may not be what you think. Montclair State has followed me through two addresses even though they were never given the information that I moved to AZ. I have absolutely no idea how it's possible, but it happened. Heck, I've had Domestications following me since I lived in Bloomfield, and I purchased from them *once* in 1998. I have no idea how they do it, but they manage it somehow.

It may not be that. It's even possible my parents told them where to find me. They aren't following me from prior addresses, though, because they didn't have my prior addresses (and, for that matter, I've been here over two years and this is the first I've gotten).

In your case, Montclair probably got it from bounced mail after the forwarding order expired - the postal service will put a little sticky across the bottom of the letter with the last known address when they return to sender. As for the catalog, ask blackfog how that works...

*giggles* The Xena catalog has been following me since 1996 at that one-room apartment I used to have. I forgot about that one. The weird part is that I get it once a year, and usually forwards disappear before then.

It is still possible that Drew tracked you down - some organizations actually go looking for old alumni every now and then to see if they can get donations out of them.

Yep.

Regardless of how it happened, it's still a little ironic that when they finally caught up with me, it was very soon after my most recent round of complaining about universities asking for money from alumni who don't have money to spare. (and yes, I know all the good reasons that they do)

Did I ever tell you that one of my work study jobs while at Drew was for the alumni association? I was the one who called recent grads and asked them for cash (I thought it was terrible to call people who'd only graduated within the last year and try to get money out of them, but, well, it was a job and I needed any cash I could get!)

Basically, I can tell you there's little to no way to avoid being found again. You'd have to drop off the face of the planet, and I mean literally. No mail, no bills, no credit, no cameras, no nothing. If there's data on someone, you can be found.

As to how it worked this time, I have no idea, but there are plenty of ways to find people and keep their address up to date.

Didn't y'all (from work) once determine that to not get junk mail you had to be squatting on someone else's land out in Montana, in an abandoned place or a place you built by hand, stealing power and all other services, independantly wealthy all in cash (absolutely no ownership or accounts or credit) and/or working only under the table, ever, and you would have to have never been enrolled in school or tested for anything...no ss card, no tax identity, never been claimed on someone else's taxes as a dependant, never employing anyone else or contracting any deliveries or services...
